New Chairman of Manhattan Attorney "Ethics" Committee is Ernest J. Collazo

64-Year-Old Bronx Native Provides Hope for Corruption Clean-Up
Again, hopes spring eternal, and a new chairman of the corrupt attorney "ethics" committee has been named….. more....
Ernest J. Collazo is a respected Columbia Law School graduate (class of 1974), and a managing partner of Collazo Florentino & Keil LLP.  Mr. Collazo formally takes over on January 1, 2014 as the head of the disgraced court group charged with ethics oversight of attorneys with offices in The Bronx and Manhattan- the Departmental Disciplinary Committee (the "DDC").
Mr. Collazo has been active with the DDC since 2008, and has been a member of the DDC Policy Committee since 2012.  His tenure at the DDC has provided him with first-hand knowledge of how dysfunctional the DDC is, and the urgent need that the first order of business be to remove Jorge Dopico as chief counsel.  Mr. Dopico began his tenure with positive action, but quickly succumbed to political pressures and became another soul-less and corrupt hack with predecessors Thomas Cahill and Alan Friedberg.
While some insiders are concerned over Mr. Collazo's ties to the former DDC chairman Roy Reardon, Mr. Collazo has privately expressed his dismay at how ethics investigations by the DDC have been routinely covered-up for connected insiders, and that have tarnished the DDC's credibility for years.  Mr. Collazo has confided with associates that he will make the long-overdue changes necessary to restore true ethics back to the ethics oversight committee.
Chairman Collazo had been employed from 1977-1991 at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, the law firm of Roy Reardon, and the group long-rumored to stall legal ethics accountability at the DDC and at the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.
It is hopeful that the Mr. Collazo will be guided by another Bronx-born-attorney-turned Presiding-Justice, the Hon. Francis T. Murphy, Jr., who sent armed officers to lock down the offices of the DDC when it was corrupt under his authority. (CLICK HERE TO SEE THE MURPHY REPORT)

  1. Maybe someone will finally yank Eliot Spitzer's law license. Until then, New York attorney oversight is a sham.

  3. I concur that Spitzer is part of the problem;
which is why he couldn't get into even the lowest of offices.

  4. What about taking away Robert Tembeckjian's law license. He's the dirty chief counsel of the NYS judicial ethics committee and he's destroyed decent people while letting certain judges get away with countless crimes. Tembeckjian should be arrested and charged with Misprison of Felony for NOT doing his job, or reporting the crimes he has been witness to.

  5. Disgusted with New York's criminal leadersDecember 30, 2013 at 12:06 PM

If Andrew Cuomo has a law license, it too should be taken away. Cuomo is and was a very big part of the corruption when he was the New York State Attorney General. Cuomo protected and still protects the worst criminals around. But Cuomo can be bought off and if you contribute to his presidential pipe dream Cuomo will look the other way. Haven't we all had enough of the likes of Spitzer and Cuomo?

  6. Let's be serious, Collazo is probably a good ole boy who will keep pushing the same DDC cover up crap. So, it's best to just bring back the old gang of Tom Cahill, Sherry Cohen and Alan Friedberg and set up the DDC waiting area as a bar. Does anyone know if that misfit Goldstein is still around? Naomi is another fool who can be bought

  7. Don't forget Shelly Silver...December 30, 2013 at 12:43 PM

The longest-serving crook with a law license is Shelly Silver. Take that scoundrel's law license away and I'll be happy. And New York will be a better place and those who abuse women will no longer be wrongly protected.

  8. I find it quite amusing that this website beat the NY Law Journal and the Court website in reporting that Ernest Collazo will be the new DDC Chairman.

I just called a friend at Collazo Florentino Keil and confirmed that the information is true.

  9. The DDC cannot be fixed- it is too broken. Shut it down and start over.

  10. Let Eliot Spitzer and Bernie Kerik oversee ethics investigations. These are 2 intelligent guys who have been burned by the sludges of New York, and they know where all of the bodies are buried. Just make sure that EVERYTHING they do is videotaped and posted on-line-- every bit of every investigation should be out in the open so there's no chance of the usual coverups. You know, the FBI uses former bank robbers and computer hack criminals to get to the bottom of real problems. We need to do that we ethics.

  11. What ever happened to the NYS chief judge Sol Wachler who went to federal prison? I heard he was teaching ethics. Maybe he has had a rebirth and could clean up the mess he helped create back in the 1970s.

  12. I just read the Collazo bio from his law firm website. It seems like the guy has a heart- something that has been horribly missing from the DDC for well over 20 years. My problem, though, is that Collazo will have to take his marching orders from Jonathan Lippman, Luis Gonzalez, John McConnell, Gail Prudenti or someone from the bunch of no-name OCA soldiers. Bottom line: no change- business as usual: corrupt insiders will get away with everything, and if you're not connected, you'll get screwed. Welcome to the New York State Court System- where ethics depends on who you know.

  15. Who is this guy? Who has he represented? Who are his clients? Has an ethics complaint ever been filed against him or his firm? Is there any dirt on his white shoes? Who knows this guy could be just another space cadet, time shall tell.
